Housing search platforms
If you can’t find a place in a student residence, renting accommodation from private individuals or estate agents is a good option.
However, be careful when looking for accommodation on the internet, particularly on websites that put people in touch with each other: there are plenty of scams out there.
Read the advice from Studapart and “La carte des Colocs” to avoid scams.
Our partners:
Studapart gives you easy access to accommodation anywhere in France for a minimum period of one month. All the procedures are carried out on a single platform.
To get started, click on “Espace Locataire” and register using your EM Normandie login details.
Do you have any questions? Contact Studapart by telephone on +33 1 80 92 64 01 or by email booking@studapart.com
Tip: if you are interested in student residences, it is preferable to rent directly from the residences, without going through the Studapart platform, so as not to multiply the fees you have to pay.
Looking for a flat share? “La Carte des Colocs” is a good solution. Launched in 2013, this independent site aims to put an end to the domination of paid portals in the online flatsharing sector.
This partner allows you to rent verified accommodation online from anywhere in the world, in 100 cities, including Paris.
Take advantage of a 30% discount on your booking fees with the promo code EMN30. Please note: don’t forget to enter the promo code at the time of booking to benefit from the discount.

Obtaining a guarantor
When you rent accommodation in France, you will be asked to provide a guarantor when you set up your rental file.
The guarantor is a natural person or an organisation that stands surety for you.
If you don’t know a French person who can act as a guarantor, you have alternatives.
- Visale
This rental deposit is free and available up to the age of 30.
International students? Check out the Campus France tutorial.
- Garantme
Take advantage of a 10% discount on guarantee fees by using the promo code EMNORMANDIE.
- Studapart guarantee
If you find accommodation via their platform, Studapart can act as your guarantor for the duration of your tenancy.
Do you have a question? Contact Studapart by telephone on 01 80 92 64 01 or by email booking@studapart.com
Housing subsidies
- Caisse d’Allocations Familiales (CAF) assistance
You may be able to get help from the CAF to pay your rent if you meet the following 4 conditions:
– You are French or a foreign national with a valid residence permit
– You rent decent accommodation
– You are not related to the owner of the property you are renting
– Your income (salary, grant, etc.) is below certain ceilings.
If you are sharing, you are still eligible for housing benefit. The rent used to calculate the assistance is divided according to the number of flatmates. Each flatmate must make their own application for housing benefit.

- Bail Mobilité: short-term rental with no security deposit required
This is a lease for furnished accommodation only, intended for a “temporary” audience. The major advantage is that the tenant is not required to pay a security deposit to the landlord.
Beware of the duration of the mobility lease:
– Concluded for a minimum of 1 month and a maximum of 10 months,
– Non-renewable and non-renewable,
– Modifiable once by amendment, but the total duration may not exceed 10 months.
– When the lease ends, if the tenant and owner sign a new lease for the same property, the new lease must be a “classic” residential lease.
Insuring your home
It is compulsory to insure your accommodation, whether you have found it with a private individual or a student residence. This insurance protects you and your home in the event of a claim (fire, water damage, natural disaster, etc.).
